The Library of the Soul (Your Own Psalm 23)

The Library of the Soul (Your Own Psalm 23)

Watching the birds
Do their own special dance
Chirping a song
From branch to branch
The leaves sway slowly
In the softness of breeze
The music of the wind
The waltz of the trees
Sunlight kisses
The waters of the pond
Ducks swirl and play
Near the ballet of a swan
The cat-tail flow and flurry
Like a hand on piano keys
Sitting in silence
Your heart falls to its knees
A symphony of praise
Not every man can see
Restoring the soul
Your own Psalm 23

Homeless and cold
Scuffing down the street
Your view from behind
The sadness of feet
Cracks in the sidewalk
Seem to crawl on his hands
The wrinkled of life
In the hour glass sands
You catch him by the arm
And give him a treat
Your paper bagged lunch
Something to eat
You talk for a while
Sitting on the stairs
He wraps around your heart
And he'll stay in your prayers
He leadeth you down
The righteousness path
Your own Psalm 23
Where your soul takes a bath

Alone at your desk
Meditating on your read
The wisdom of God's word
Will lovingly lead
Beside the still waters
And the green pasture's graze
His rod and His staff
Brings peace to your days
You bow your head in prayer
And speak to the Lord
Communion with Christ
Can be every man's reward
In your quiet time together
And the bending of your knee
He will meet you where you are
Your own Psalm 23...

A Future of Hope

A Future of Hope

In solitude and time of prayer
I cried to the Lord in quiet despair
My feelings hurt and emotions raw
If only I could see what the Lord saw
He whispered gently to my soul
Don't let discouragement take you from the fold
You receive my blessings day by day
And some days just don't go your way
But I have special plans for you
For a life of peace and joy too
You have a future full of hope
I am here to help you cope
Seek me daily I'm listening for you
Search for me with your heart so true
I will lead you back to a safe place
Where we can talk face to face
There's no mountain too steep
Nor any valley that's so deep
That God can't lead you from where you roam
Back to His peace and comfort and safety of home

Sunflower

Sunflower

This mighty flower stands above
All others of the field.
I wonder what they’re thinking of
As majesty’s revealed.

She seeks her glory from the sun
And casts her shadow’s snare.
She sways and dances just for fun
With elegance and flare.

For she is praising God on high
For bright and sunny days.
She strains to reach and touch the sky
With petals all ablaze.

With all the glory she has known
And eminent renown,
No one can ever take her throne
Or reach her golden crown.

But shorter, cooler days descend
And chilly nights prevail;
Her mighty stem begins to bend,
Her color starts to pale.

The payment’s due on glory’s loan;
A full and heavy pod.
She prays her life has clearly shown,
She owes her all to God.

This mighty flower bows her head
And stands in heaven’s shroud.
What’s left of pride is being shed
As she has humbly bowed.
Proverbs 14:34, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."

Faith of the Four

 Faith of the Four

The bible relates a story
Of four men who felt impelled,
To take a sick man to Jesus
In faith he could be made well.

The facts of the story are clear
But missing are the details.
So we can only imagine
What else the story entails.

Did one of the four men decide
To place sandals in his pack,
Believing the man would need them
Walking the road coming back?

Did the second man determine
He may need some extra cash,
In case of the unexpected
And fasten it in his sash?

And the third man was he thinking
Of the danger of that day,
Securing a knife on his side
Traveling along the way?

Consider the fourth man praying
To God with all his soul,
Strengthening his faith in believing
Jesus would make the man whole.

Seeing the crowds did they lose faith?
Their actions would be the proof.
They climbed to the top of the house
With the knife dug up the roof.

Lowering their friend at Jesus’ feet
Their faith was soon rewarded.
Jesus forgave the man of his sins
And his new life was started.

Commanding him to take up his mat
The paralyzed man stood tall,
Praising God in his amazement
Rejoicing before them all.

Told to go home did the healed man
Put the sandals on with care?
And did they give the homeowner
Money for the roof’s repair?

And at home was his mother praying
God’s hand on the son she bore,
Then before her eyes prayers answered
As five walk in through the door?

We may not know the true details
Of the four and the healed man,
Until we meet them in heaven
And hear their stories first-hand.
