Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day

February fourteenth, what a day!
In many ways, we try to say
"I love you, and I mean it too.
I want you to know my love is true."

We give flowers and candy hearts
With cupids shooting red love darts.
To others, we send pretty cards
With rhyming words written by bards.

It's Valentine's Day again, you see.
Some men get down on bended knee
And propose to their sweeties so fair,
For today love floats in the air!

There are parties for kids at school.
They swap Valentine cards so cool.
They eat lots of candy and sweets.
Teachers can't keep them in their seats.

They love Valentine's Day in stores.
Many men come through the doors
To buy a last minute Valentine gift,
Paying the price and forgetting thrift.

Let's not forget about the greatest love.
It comes from the Heavenly Father above.
He sent His Son Jesus to die for all.
Upon Him for salvation, you can call.

His Kind Blessings: A Villanelle

His Kind Blessings: A Villanelle

The night unfolds her starry wings
To slowly glide across the sky,
So we may praise God's kind  blessings

An angel chorus softly sings
A sweet and gentle lullaby,
As night unfolds her starry wings.

Before the restful sleep it brings;
Before we close
each drowsy eye;
Let us give praise for His blessings.

Today we've done so many things,
But now its time to let them fly
Where night unfolds her starry wings,

And as we send these offerings
Up to our Lord who lives on high,
In humble praise for His blessings

We put aside our vain strivings,
And feel His peace come testify
That night unfolds her starry wings,
So we may praise His kind blessings.
To slowly glide across the sky,

So we may praise God's kind  blessings

An angel chorus softly sings
A sweet and gentle lullaby,
As night unfolds her starry wings.

Before the restful sleep it brings;
Before we close
each drowsy eye;
Let us give praise for His blessings.

Today we've done so many things,
But now its time to let them fly
Where night unfolds her starry wings,

And as we send these offerings
Up to our Lord who lives on high,
In humble praise for His blessings

We put aside our vain strivings,
And feel His peace come testify
That night unfolds her starry wings,
So we may praise His kind blessings.

Love Beyond Measure

Love Beyond Measure

We show our love to others
On Valentine's Day each year.
We give cards, flowers, and  candy
As Valentine's Day draws near.

A  candlelight dinner  that night
Can be a romantic experience too.
We treasure those special moments
With all the loving things we do.

God showed His great love for us
When He sent His only begotten Son.
Jesus died to save us from our sin.
His salvation plan is the only one.

So great is God's infinite love!
His love is love beyond measure!
If we accept His gift of salvation,
We can possess the greatest treasure.

That great treasure is eternal life.
Salvation is a gift that is free.
Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.
Experience His love through eternity!

O Adam's Race! Thy Beauty Molden

O Adam's Race! Thy Beauty Molden

O Adam’s race! thy beauty molden,
Who gave thee o’er to flesh and blood?
For life is not of blood itself
But of the Breath of God.

Was it by thine own strength
From whence thy dust-wrought bosom
Gave forth that lustrous being
From whence all life doth blossom?

Who gave to thee the stars
For to command the night,
And who hath given thee the pow’r
Of day to own the light?

Was it by thine own cunning
And thy brilliant youthful mind
That conquered ye the cosmos
For to say, ‘All Nature’s mine!’?

From whence hast thou derivèd
This right proposed by thee
That thou should rule the earth, and more:
The universe empty?

Thou canst not well-sustain thyself
Against the Nature’s power;
Ye have but to return in haste
To Truth’s eternal Tower.

‘Whereto shall we escape!’ ye cry
In anguish, for the earth
Has swift against thee made its war
To end thy kind’s rebirth.

When in the darkness stagg’ring
Like some encumbered beast,
Thou wilt a-sense the sweet arom’
Of thy Creator’s feast.

He beckons thee to come beside Him,
Kneeling ‘for His table spread,
That His good wisdom thou wouldst harken:
‘Go to where my Son hath bled.’

From the feast ye run enmaddened,
Halting not to rest or eat,
Running with consumèd passion
To kneel before the Savior’s feet.

Up the steepèd slope ye climb
Whereto the Son is dying;
Thou fallest down on blood-wet ground
And shield thine eyes, a-crying.

‘O Man, what hast thou come here for
To this My dying place?
For there is naught that ye could ask
That is not found in grace.’

‘O Lord!’ ye cry, ‘My God and King!
‘Tis after Ye I’ve come,
For in Thy grace I knew I’d
Salvation and a home.’

‘Alas!’ says He, ‘My chosen child,
Thy wish to thee is granted,
For on this day the pow’r of darkness
Has been well-supplanted.

‘Thy sins and all thy folly-ways
Which ever ye conceived
Are all forgotten and erased
Since ye were first deceived.’

The Lord of the traffic lights

The Lord of the traffic lights

I had to stop because the light was red
although I wanted to race on ahead.
The Lord said that it was time to be still
Time to reflect and to discern His will.

And there in the stillness by God’s good grace
sweet communion with Him had taken place
and His new purpose He began to show
and He pointed out the way I should go.

The bright yellow light then began to shine
as I prepared for this journey of mine.
For the Lord my God had now equipped me
to take a different type of journey.

I had to detour and  change  direction

shown to me in my time of reflection.
For Jesus had promised always to be
a close Companion and Guide to me.

Then as I waited the light turned to green
and I set off through a differing scene.
From the old I travelled into the new
as the Lord was showing me what to do.

Sometimes the lights turned green, yellow or red
Sometimes I stopped, preparing for what’s ahead.
But at all times God was in full control
of the traffic lights directing
my soul.
