I was shocked

I WAS SHOCKED

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp—
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.

'And why's everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue.'
'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
At the thought of seeing you.'

In a for land and on an acient day
The great throngs followed him : the One who came
And said , “I am the way ,“
And kindled in the ir hearts a leaping flame .
The tramping multitudes , the pressing throng ,
That sought him for their own swift sure release
From shackling ills ,or for some torturing wrong ,
Sought avidly to find their soul’s release .

Lord , Lord ,today the throngs still reach to touch
Thy garment’s hem across the lengthening years .
We have been hurt and troubled over much ,
Look down and heal our ills , and calm our fears .
Behold the multitude that seek thee , Lord ,
In church and field and lane of every land –
Speak peace once more , assure us through thy Word ,
And bless us with thy out-stretched healing hand .

I Have the Faith

I Have the Faith

I have the faith that Jesus
Has the same power today
To heal and bless and comfort
The pilgrims along earth’s way ,
As he had when he walked the highroads
Of earth and heard men cry
The poignant words that “Jesus
Of Nazareth passeth by .”

I have the faith that his garments ,
If touched , hold virtue still
That can straighten a crooked body ,
And heal the maimed and ill .
I know that the broken-hearted ,
The countless scores of them ,
Have but to reach their hands out
And touch his garment’s hem .
Lord ,Lord , why should I waver
Through this strange night of grief ?
I have faith –I know –O master ,
Help thou my unbelief !

Count Your Gains and Not Losses

Count Your Gains and Not Losses

As we travel down life’s busy road
Complaining of our heavy load ,
We often think God’s been unfair
And given us much more than our share
Of little daily irritations
And disappointing tribulations
We count our losses , not our gain ,
And remember only tears and pain …
And wrapped up in our own despair
We have no time to see or share
Another’s load that far out weights
Our little problems and dismays .
And so we walk with head held low
And little do we guess or know
That someone near us on life’s street
Is burdened deeply with defeat …
But if we’d but forget our care
And stop in sympathy to share
The burden that our brother carried ,
Our mind and heart would be less harried ,
And we would feel our load was small ,
In fact , we carried no load at all .

It Takes the Bitter and the Sweet

It Takes the Bitter and the Sweet

It takes the bitter and the sweet
To make a life full and complete ,
So when God sends
Some unwanted affiction ,
Be assured that it comes
With His kind benediction ,
And if we accept it
As a gift of His love ,
We’ll be showered with blessings
From our Father above .
For his grace is sufficient ,
Whatever betide us ,
And it only takes faith
To keep Him beside us .

Where Can We Find Him ?

Where Can We Find Him ?

Where can we find the Holy One ?
Where can we see His only Son ?
The Wise Men asked , and we’re asking still ,
Where can we find this Man of goodwill ?
Is He far away in some distant place ,
Ruling unseen from throne of grace ?
Is there nothing on earth man can see
To give him proof of eternity ?

It’s true we have never looked on God’s face ,
But likeness shines forth from every place ,
For the hand of God is everwhere
Along life’s busy thoroughfare ,
And His presence can be felt and seen
Right in the midst of our daily routine ,
The things we touch and see and feel
Are what make God so very real .

I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station , through which God speaks to us every hour ,if we only tune in.

Wisdom Comes From God

Wisdom Comes From God

Knowledge comes from learning ,
but wisdom comes from God ,
The God who made the universe –
the sea , the sky , the sod –
The who makes it possible
to find miracles each day ,
If we but trust His wisdom
and follow in His way .
