Refrigerator Door Treasures

So many pictures adorn my fridge's door,
There is hardly a space for anymore.
I plan to weed out a few someday,
But which one can I bear to throw away?

These treasures I really want to keep.
Gladness and joy to my heart they reap.
They are dear samples of my grandkids' art
That I cherish and hold close to my heart.

God gives grandparents grandkids to love
As He blesses our hearts from up above.
He knows grandparents receive much joy
From a loving grandchild, a girl or boy.

My fridge door has that cluttered look.
Maybe someday I can compile a book
Of all these treasures on this door,
But now I must find room for one more.

When I see these lovely pictures each day,
For each grandchild, I remember to pray.
I thank God for these children so dear,
For into my life they bring much cheer.

When I was young,
I often clung,
to many little things.
I'd reach up high,
again retie,
my mama's apron strings.

I sometimes did,
what mom forbid,
although she'd make it clear.
Thoughts still linger.
I remember,
through each fleeting year.

Acquainted still,
her stories thrill,
with many left untold.
I can't go back,
though mem-ries track,
to years I'd rather hold.

I'm lost in thought,
it can't be caught,
despite my futile search -
mama singing,
mama bringing,
this small boy to church.

Though I was touched,
and changed so much,
through Christ, the perfect One -
I cannot stay,
time slips away,
from all that she had done.

I try to grasp,
and hands I clasp,
around those many things -
but mem-ry strands,
slip through my hands -
just like those apron strings.

I miss her so.
Emotions show.
There's moistness in my eyes.
I can't withhold,
though I am old,
my oft guilt-ridden cries.

Though sometimes sad,
I'm always glad,
whenever I think of -
my mama's cares,
my mama's prayers,
and her most precious love.

The Seasons Follow

The Seasons Follow

The twilight falls and day is gone.
The sun gets up and morning comes.
The hands of time push slowly through.
You're gone and I'm still missing you.

Across the way a robin sings.
He seems to say 'At last it's spring.
The leaves return to hold the tree
But never shall your arms hold me.

The seasons follow one by one.
The dawn will reach the setting sun.
The rose will come to touch the vine
But no more shall your hand touch mine.

The seasons change from day to day
But they return the same sweet way.
Time marches on to start anew...
But how I long to be with you.

Waiting For The Day

Waiting For The Day

Though months or years have come and gone,
Since our loved ones have passed away,
Our love for them never lessens;
That's what gets us through another day.

Their memories are all around us;
We're reminded of when they were here.
Certain sounds, smells, and sweet dreams,
Bring back the times we now hold dear.

God's always there to bring us comfort;
For sorrow has touched all families.
He wants us to comfort each other;
Words that console; put the heart at ease.

We still miss all the hugs and kisses;
The laughter, a smile, his or her voice.
We, who believe, are waiting for the day,
When in Heaven, together we'll rejoice.

The Godless Journey

The Godless Journey

A plane with no pilot, a perilous flight;
The throng of the trusting go into the night;
Considering never their treacherous plight;
And none seem ever the wiser.

With no destination, but a fiery crash;
They tell themselves (and others) this flesh will not ash;
Their lies come to nothing in one blinding flash;
The spendthrift, as well as the miser.

They boarded their passage, the minds unalert;
So happy their feelings would never get hurt.
With no pushy pilot his will to insert;
A paradise of their own making.

The meal so delicious, the seats nice and firm;
Riding the airwaves on their own terms;
No schedule to make the anxious ones squirm;
Autonomous roles for the taking.

Masters of fate, but not masters at all;
Miniature gods, not quite six feet tall;
Yet yielding to gravity still they must fall;
But think not too much of the landing.

Pointless and hapless they set a new trend;
Life is a journey, who cares how it ends;
Eat, drink, and be merry, and tell all your friends;
A transient stage with no standing.

Downward they go to a fiery grave;
With no crafty airmen the cargo to save;
But oh how heroic the plummet they brave;
Their new shoes receiving a polish.

Such are the souls when God is not known;
Their lives lived at ease with themselves on the throne;
Friends for a moment and then all alone;
But truth they can never abolish.

Did You Hear the Good News

Did You Hear the Good News

Did you hear the Good News,
how Jesus died for you . . .
were you told about His grace
truly making all things new?

Did you hear the Good News,
how you can be forgiven
why Jesus came to redeem
your sinful condition?

Did you hear the Good News,
have you come to know
how Jesus washes your sins
turning them white as snow?

Did you hear the Good News,
God remembers your sin no more
how when Jesus arose
He opened to you, heavens door?

Did you hear the Good News,
before God you’ll stand blameless
for Jesus was the sacrifice . . .
making you His bride, spotless!
1 Peter 1:18-19

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not
redeemed with corruptible things,
as silver and gold, from your vain
conversation received by tradition
from your fathers;

But with the precious blood
of Christ, as of a lamb
without blemish and without spot:”

Prayer Meeting

Prayer Meeting

From the trucker on the highway
To the lofty business suite
From a laborer in some byway
To the houses down the street
From conductors in high towers
To the ships way out at sea
There comes a cry to tender ears
A begging, earnest plea

Someone needs your prayers today
Faithful soldier will you pray?
In your service for your Lord
Rich will be your last reward
So halt your labor, lend an ear
He needs us all both far and near
To man or woman, boy or girl
We're having a prayer meeting ALL OVER THE WORLD

From missionaries in the jungle
To the desert wilderness
From your distant German uncle
To your Irish relatives
From down under in New Zealand
To the frigid Northern Pole
We have a common zeal and
We share a common goal

Someone needs our prayers today
Lay your weapons down and pray
Farmer in your dusty field
There among the sheaves you kneel
Invalid upon your bed
There in love you bow your head
Man and woman, boy and girl
We're having a prayer meeting ALL OVER THE WORLD

To His glorious throne in Heaven
From this vast and weary land
A Father ever-loving
Hears a tender chorus grand
From every tribe in every nation
Every tongue, communal plea
All across His great creation
Rise the prayers for one in need

Someone needs Your help today
Hear us Father as we pray
Shine upon him with Your love
Watch him from your throne above
Man and woman, boy and girl
All around this great wide world
Fight the soldiers fight today
AS WE ALL UNITE TO PRAY
