.Wish Not for Ease

Wish Not for Ease
If wishes worked like magic
And plans worked that way , too ,
And if everything you wished for ,
Whether good or bad for you ,
Immediately were granted
With no effort on your part ,
You’d experience no fulfillment
Of your spirit or your heart ,
For things achieved too easily
Lose their charm and meaning , too ,
For it is life’s difficulties
And the trail-times we go through
That make us strong in spirit
And endow us with the will
To surmount the insurmountable
And to climb the highest hill
So wish not for the easy way
To win your heart’s desire ,
For the joy’s in overcoming
For to triumph over trouble
And withstanding flood and fire
For to triumph over trouble
And grow stronger with defeat
Is to win the kind of victory
That will make your life complete.

Within His Hands

Within His Hands
Whenever I grow weary ,
And miles seen much too long ,
And troubles think I am the one
To whom they all belong .
When things don’t always work out ,
According to my plan ,
It’s hard to drag my cross along ,
When I can barely stand .
And yet it’s times like these that test
The metal of my soul ,
If everthing were gold ,
We would have naught to hope for ,
If skies were always blue ,
And it is true the sweetest smile
Must hide a tear or two .
And so in spite of everthing ,
I know I’m not alone ,
God never will forget me ,
Though all the world be gone .
With age there comes a wisdom ,
Youth never understands ,
When each of us can see ourselves ,
…Carved in the Savior’s Hands

Never Be Discouraged

Never Be Discouraged
There is really nothing we need know
or even try to understand
If we refuse to be discouraged
and trust God’s guiding hand .
So take heart and meet each minute
with faith in God’s great love ,
Aware that every day of life
is controlled by God above .
And never dread tomorrow
or what the future brings ,
Just pray for strength and courage
and trust God in all things .
So never grow discourage
be patient and just wait ,
For God never comes too early
and He never comes too late !

Smile

Smile
When you do what you do
with a will and a smile ,
Everything that you do
will seem twice as worth while ,
And when you walk down the street ,
life will seem twice as sweet
If you smile at the people
you happen to meet ,
For when you smile , it is true ,
folks will smile back at you…
So do what you do
with a will and a smile ,
And whatever you do
will be twice as worth while .

Gentleness
Brethren if a man is overtaken in any trespass ,
you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit
of gentleness . Look to yourself , lest you too be
tempted . Bear one another’s burdens , and so fulfil the law of Christ .

I Meet God in the Morning

I Meet God in the Morning
The earth is the Lord’s
and the fullness thereof ,
It speaks of His greatness ,
it sings of His love ,
And each day at dawning
I lift my heart high
And raise up my eyes
to the infinite sky …
I see the dew glisten
in crystal-like splendor
While God ,with a touch
that is gentle and tender ,
Wraps up the night
and softly tucks it away
And hangs out the sun
to herald a new day ,
A day yet unblemished
by what’s gone before ,
A chance to begin
and start over once more ,
And all I need do
is to silently pray ,
God , help me and guide me
and go with me today

The Mystery of Prayer

The Mystery of Prayer
Beyond that which words can interpret
Or theology can explain ,
The soul feels a shower of refreshment
That falls like the gentle rain
On hearts that are parched with problems
And are searching to find the way
To somehow attract God’s attention
Through- well chosen words as they pray ,
Not knowing that God in His wisdom
Can sense all man’s worry and woe
For there is nothing man can conceal
That God does not already know
So kneel in prayer in His presence
And you’ll find no need to speak ,
For softly in silent communion
God grants you the peace that you seek .

Sufficient Grace

Sufficient Grace

Read 2 Corinthians 12:2–10
Release the idea that contentment requires comfort. Contentment is possible no matter how dire your circumstances. While under house arrest, Paul wrote, “I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:11-13). There it is again. Did you see it? The secret to Paul’s contentment was knowing Christ’s strength was perfected in his weakness. He really got it . . . and what a liberating concept it became!
Suffering is a delicate subject. It’s not easy to address because I realize I’m writing to people who have known a depth of suffering to which I have never gone. In no way do I wish to give the impression that I am a model of how to go through it. To be honest with you, I fail in my responses to adversity more than I succeed. It’s a lot easier to write a chapter on it than it is to model those things that look good in print. Along with the occasional pity parties I throw for myself, my heart is occasionally broken, and my spirit takes a tumble. So if that is your experience today, I can identify with that.
My desire is for you and me, together, to claim grace and cultivate grit in the midst of our suffering—like Paul. And in the process to wean ourselves from the rabid pursuit of happiness so prevalent in our culture. Happiness is a byproduct of contentment. Once Paul discovered that, he lived it. I’m not fully there yet. Most likely, neither are you. And so, we press on together, growing and learning, reminding ourselves that He must increase, and we must decrease.
Next time you hear a knock at the back door, before you open it, repeat these words to yourself: “His grace is sufficient for me.”
